 CHARLES WATERTON, born in 1782 in Yorkshire, of an old family. Educated at a
Jesuit college in Lancashire. Visited Spain in 180 2 . Went to r eside in British Guiana
in 1804 . Visited Rome in 18 17 and 1841 and the United States and West Indies in 1824.
Died in 1 8 6 5.
